''In Too Deep'' : Genesis

Even though i only want to record dance tracks i find the enjoyment of listening to classic soft rock or any nostalgic genre of music for the matter. Just when i thought Phil Collins had enough string of hits like the Beatles, i find out that he was with a band prior to his solo career called Genesis was just astonished as to how successfully Phil Collins was as artist cause not only did i think Phil Collins had an amazing collection of songs, but i thought the Genesis songs sounded even better. Because of the fact that i didn't know Phil Collins was in a band, it took me a very long time to find the artist of this song after hearing on the radio in high school, titled ''In Too Deep''. You can say this is my number one Genesis song cause i catch myself in the mirror at home singing to it all the time while pretending to be Phil Collins.I might not look like the person who does impersonations but we all have our guilty pleasures. I'm just a sucker for the classics. I can't help it.

Underrated Music.

Are you one of those music listeners who would listen to a whole album by an artist and come across some great tracks that you thought should've been promoted as singles? it doesn't necessarily have to be random tracks from an album. it could be songs that made it to the radio top 40 but to you, they deserved to be #1 because of the creativity of the song or it could be songs made by an independent artist cause music isn't always enjoyable just because it comes from a major record label. That just means more money from tons of promotion and a lot of media exposure. I feel as though there are so many songs that exist that should've been exposed for the hard work put into them without the cost of promotion and the image of the artist overshadowing the genuine reason why that artist exist in the first place. Would you agree? As a heavy music listener, i love underrated records so much better than your everyday top 5 tracks cause you have the power to hear what you want on your MP3 player, instead of hearing what the common mainstream artist wants you to hear through radio promotion. To show how great underrated songs are, i posted one of my favorite one-hit wonder classics released in 1994, which is the reggae inspired ''Lucas With the Lid off'' by the artist Lucas. The video was also aired on MTV when the network was actually a music network. What's your favorite underrated song?

'' Legend of a Cowgirl '' : Instrumental Sampling

One of the many reasons i wanted to be recording producer/DJ is the skill of producing an instrumental so original and articulate that i would get a call from someone asking to sample my work. It's a good feeling to know that someone else was inspired by your own work cause that's more proof that your work still holds influence over a current audience rather being labeled as ''yesterday's news'' while another musician is in the limelight.

The 1997 hit, ''Legend Of A Cowgirl'', which solidified Imani Coppola as one-hit wonder samples one of my favorite 60s classic, ''Sunshine Superman'' which was released in 1966 by Donovan. I actually heard ''Legend Of A Cowgirl'' when i was 18 years on the radio, and thinking it was originally made by the current artist, Imani, i got hooked onto the psychedelic soulful instrumental. But a year later i stumbled upon the ''Sunshine Superman'' song on a commercial and realized that instant that Legend Of A Cowgirl was sampled. After hearing Sunshine Superman, it made me develop an interest in 60s songs and contributed to my appreciation of 60s music when i hated it at first. But one question that is on my mind about sampling, is to how does a current mainstream producer in get contact with just any past producer in order to sample a song that was made like 40 years ago? Cause there are tons of instrumentals that i'm dying to revive for two or three tracks on an album!

Pride ( In the Name Of Love )

How do you feel when a ballad or melody you love all of a sudden becomes an uptempo dance craze? For me when i hear redone songs like "Pride", my ambition for recording songs gets higher and my curiosity increases as to how "good" songs are created. The 1991 techno track, "Pride" was recorded by the 90s dance production act, C+C Music Factory. For those who are familiar with the discography of the English rock band, U2, you'll notice that all of the lyrics in the dance track was used from U2's "Pride". As a fan of the 1990s house/techno phenomenon, i considered dance to be my first and only love of music i was exposed to from at least age 5 to 10 cause that was all i knew as kid coming up in the mid to late 1990s. Without the house/techno genre, i'll probably just be an actor and not a recording producer. Hope you enjoy "Pride".

''Better Off Alone''

Another song that was been added to my inspiring discography, is ''Better Off Alone'' by the Dutch electronic music group, Alice Deejay. Mixed with a combination of dance-pop, & eurodance , this song shot it way to the top 5 spot in 2001. With a little help from the 80s British duo, the Eurythmics, Alice Deejay was allowed to sample the bands's lyric, ''Talk To Me'' from their 1984 hit, ''Here Comes the Rain'', making ''Better Off Alone'' a yearly anthem for upcoming DJ's like me.

Gaining Talent

Basically, i lack talent at the moment of recording my own sound because i never had any real experience at with working with studio equipment or music software which i'm in the midst right now of learning. over the years while listening to many hit singles, i pretty much studied how sound effects tend to form a repetition with the lyrics of a song according to the mark of a verse and chorus forming a relationship to become a complete song. Furthermore, i know how to visualize what i'm going to do record a complete demo while at the same time learning how to physically use the music equipment being provided. So i'm one step ahead of not making a sloppy demo where's it's forgettable just like that. I have to pretend as though my project is about to be released to the world if i want it to really sound good to me. The song at the bottom ''Starry Eyed Surprise'' by Paul Oakenfold was just one of many songs that gave me the desire to record music.

How was my Theme Influenced?

My theme ''1000 tunes'' basically came from my fascination with the history and art of many popular songs that have shaped pop culture and defined many generations of upcoming musicians whether it were singers, producers, or any other individuals that had an affiliation with the music business. The way mainstream songs have changed over the course of the last five decades since the 1960s, is an interest i will be sharing in future posts.
